If you thought the days of carrying around a giant boomboox on your shoulder were over, think again. The traditional 80s boombox went high-tech at CES 2009 in the form of the Lasonic
i-931se "High Performance Portable Music System" which encourages you (through a picture printed on the device itself) to carry your music around with you on your shoulder in old-school style and share it with anyone within earshot.
We saw these at CES and were immediately mesmerized by not only the sheer size of the players but also all the functionality Lasonic has managed to cram into the device while maintaining a pretty solid retro look.
The gigantic player has an iPod dock (where your cassette deck should be) that charges and controls your iPod, an AM/FM tuner, and support for MP3 files saved either on SD/MMC cards on standard USB flash drives. The boombox also has a microphone input for those times when you want to sing along with your favorite tracks (or speak to the masses on your favorite street corner), as well as a headphone jack if you ever find a time you want to keep your jams to yourself.
The stereo is available now for around $170, which might put them out of price range for those who would buy one for sheer novelty's sake. If you do pick one of these up, however, you're bound to turn more than a few heads, and probably earn some serious street cred.
