In a unique decision, JVC has decided to use the exact same body for both it's high definition and standard definition camcorders this year, meaning that all of it's new camcorders for all intents and purposes look exactly the same.

The company announced three new high definition models, all of  which shoot 1020 x 1080 / 60i video that can be upconverted to 180 / 60p and sport a new Konica Minolta 20x HD lens. The main difference between the cameras is the size of their hard disk drive and their recording format.

  • GZ-HD320: has a 120 GB HDD. MSRP $799
  • GZ-HD300: has a 60 GB HDD. MSRP $699
  • GZ-HM200: has dual SD / SDHC slots that can seamlessly switch between cards as one becomes full. MSRP $579.

The HM200 and HD300 will be available in red, blue and traditional black and are expected to ship in February, and the HD320 will be available in black only and will ship in March.

In addition to its HD models, JVC announced three new standard definition hard drive camcorders. All three have a 40x optical zoom and microSD expansion, and two of the three camcorders give you the ability to upconvert video to high-definition. The upconversion of video is done through "line doubling" which is similar to how some DVD players upconvert video to fit a high-definition television screen.

One other features present in all three models is easy output of video to YouTube and iTunes, allowing you to edit video clips physically on the camera to achieve an optimal length for YouTube uploading.

Much like the HD camcorders, the main difference between the SD models lies in the hard drive storage size.

  • GZ-MG680: has a 120 GB HDD and will be available in only traditional black. MSRP $549
  • GZ-MG670: has a 80 GB HDD and will be available in only traditional black. MSRP $479
  • GZ-MH630: has a 60 GB HDD and will be available in red, silver, and blue. MSRP $429

The MH630 and MG670 will be available later this month and the MG680 will ship in February.

Rounding out JVC's 2009 lineup are two flash based camcorders, the GZ-MS10, GZ-MS130, and GZ-MS120. Both camcorders offer easy YouTube uploading and JVC's "Digest Playback" function that automatically creates a preview reel showcasing some of the highlights of the video you've recorded.

  • GZ-MS120: will be available February in red, blue, and traditional black and will have two SD/SDHC slots,  seamlessly switching between cards as one becomes full.
  • GZ-MS130 will be available in February in black only and will record video to either a single SD/SDHC card or the cameras 16GB internal memory.
