Years after Google's Picasa arrived for Windows (way back in 2004), Google, the company that had more money and resources than any other online company for a long time, has finally released a Macintosh version of Picasa. Version 3.0 Beta for Mac was officially announced on Google's blog today and is available for download now for all users running OS X 10.4 or newer.

It will not launch for me on my OS 10.4.8 iMac. The icon in the dock bounces once, then just sits there. I have a thread in the Picasa forum, but nobody has gotten back to me. Based on the other discussions in that forum, it seems to be a rather glitchy app: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Picasa/label?lid=3917c606917842d9&hl=en, so I might as well wait for the problems to be resolved.

Google just released a 3.0.1 update, so you may want to install it and give that a shot. My installation went well and I haven't experienced any problems.

Thanks, but I just downloaded 3.0.1.321, and it still does not open for me. Very weird.

Someone from Google just answered my question in their forum, which is: "Picasa requires at least 10.4.9. The list of system requirements will be updated to reflect this soon."
