EMTEC is set to show the entire world the Gdium Liberty 1000 netbook at CES 2009 next week, and will be releasing the device in white, black, and pink in the U.S. shortly thereafter for $400. The Gdium netbook features a 10-inch 1024 x 600 pixel resolution screen, a 900 Mhz 64-bit processor, 512MBs of RAM, 802.11 b/g WiFi, running Mandriva G-Linux, and three USB 2.0 ports, although only two of them are really available for regular use, as the entire notebook runs off of either an 8GB or 16GB USB flash drive, which EMTEC have named the G-Key (the blue glowing thing in the center bottom of the picture above). The idea behind this removable bootable G-Key is that you can unplug it from the Gdium Liberty and take it with you in your pocket, accessing your files from other computers, or booting someone else's Gdium Liberty off of your G-Key.

At last! Let's see how fast the MIPS64 CPU and 512MB's of RAM runs with this user friendly Linux.
Asus and Acer netbooks are promoted with more eXPensive Windows XP, keeping Linux in the shade (thanks to Microsoft?).
Hopefully this is Linux breakthrough in the consumer market.
