LG LH95 LCD TV will measure under an inch thick

LG is set to show off its LH95 LCD television, supposedly the thinnest such set ever developed, at 2009's Consumer Electronics Show. While the LH95 may look positively fat when compared to Sony's OLED-based millimeter-thick XEL-1, it measures in at under an inch thick. LG pulls off this trick by making use of LED backlight technology, which can be manufactured into a much thinner space than the fluorescent tubes used to illuminate standard LCD TVs.

The company looks like it's holding out the big details on the set for the CES itself, building up a little buzz first; we don't even know how big the LH95 will be. LG's flaunting a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio number, which sounds ridiculously high, so it's almost certainly obtained via a dynamic measurement, one that lets the backlight turn on and off to increase the apparent contrast. The set will one-up the 120Hz frame interpolation scheme we've been seeing in a bunch of sets, featuring a 240Hz mode that, in theory, could help smooth out the motion in full-frame pans. Hopefully we'll have to more to bring you once LG unveils the model.

Samsung isn't the only one that offers LED backlit LCD HDTVs. Our review partner Digital Trends tested the LG 55LH90 LED LCD HDTV and published this review. Visit http://www.i4u.com/article26463.html for more info.
