Recession? What recession? Even as brick-and-mortar retailers close up shop, Amazon's web-based business has seen its highest-selling holiday period ever. Peak sales reached 6.3 million items a day, back on the 15th.

Netbooks were big sellers in electronics this year, with the Acer Aspire One continuing to dominate sales. Apple's iPod touch headed up the media player front, with the 8GB model bringing in the most orders. The 52-inch Samsung LN52A650 LCD TV stood out amongst television sales despite its $1,800 price tag.

No one's surprised to see the Wii dominate the console numbers, nor The Dark Knight bring home the Blu-ray sales. Microsoft had two top software titles, with both the PC and Mac versions of Microsoft Office doing very well.

While Amazon didn't name any particular models pulling in the sales in these categories, the company experienced brisk business in orders for GPS navigators and high-end headphones.
