Sony abandons impossible to open clamshell packaging

Here's some of the best news you'll hear all day: Sony has joined a slew of other companies (including Microsoft, Amazon, and Best Buy) in phasing out the absolutely impossible to open, anti-theft clamshell packaging that electronics devices have been coming in for a few years now. You know the ones we're talking about! To open these things, you have to dive in with a steak knife — or maybe even a chainsaw.
Apparently they're not just frustrating. They're also eco-unfriendly and very expensive. Given that times are tight for everyone right now, Sony decided it would rather not spend the extra cash for anti-theft packaging that probably doesn't make that big a dent on shoplifting to begin with. The company's included a slightly humorous video with its announcement, which you can watch below. It's a great holiday gift. If only it'd come sooner; this year's presents could have been easy to open, too!
