With MacWorld and the CES coming up in January, we're keeping an eye out for some early news about what new Apple products to expect. One of the latest rumor sources is a report that Quanta Computer is preparing a new shipment of hundreds of thousands of all-in-one computers, built to Apple's specs. We're clearly in iMac territory here with the "all-in-one" description, so the big questions are if this is just a minor manufacturing shift, if we're going to see some higher-end specs available, and if there's going to be a larger, more fundamental change to the iMac line.

Some of the more substantial rumors we've been hearing are that new iMacs will feature quad-core Intel chips for a nice speed bump, and that the systems will be configured with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics chipsets to help out video and gaming performance.

It's almost certain that there will be some kind of change to the iMac lineup early next year, but the situation is just too nebulous to say with much certainty what it will be. If you were hoping to pick up one of Apple's iMacs with your leftover holiday money, you'll probably want to hold off until the company makes its announcement about the line. Newer models may not be hugely different, but you'll be kicking yourself if you jump the gun and miss out on a feature you would've really wanted.

New iMacs with Blu-Ray drives would be nice. HDMI out would be great too!

I'd really like to see a 30-inch iMac, Blu-Ray drive, HDMI, up to 8 GB of Ram, dual video cards, DVI output to connect optional monitor, dual hard drives, Quad core (as mentioned above), and have more options for pre-installed software such as Adobe, etc. (and still have the software sent to you). That way you're good to go out the box.

January 10, 2009. I would like to know if anyone thinks that it's wise to wait on buying the new 17" MacBook Pro. Wait means waiting for a higher speed Intel chip. Or, other upgradable elements of the machine.
