Google "cupcake" Android update adds video recording, speeds up web browsing

Google's developers working on the Android project are rolling out a series of software updates, called the "cupcake" source code branch. This work reflects private, internal improvements made to Android's code, which Google is finally porting over to the open source project. Right now the code is only useful to owners of unlocked developer handsets, but it shouldn't be long before T-Mobile releases an update for its G1.
Changes to Android include a long list of bug fixes and improvements. You'll finally be able to save MMS attachments. Email support gets a bunch of fixes, as does the application installer system. Web browsing should be faster than ever thanks to an updated rendering core, improved JavaScript support, and faster display of animations. The patch also enables in-browser copy-and-paste and search functions. Camera functionality is finally upgraded to allow video recording instead of just capturing stills. Bluetooth support gets an overhaul, adding in A2DP & AVRCP profiles.
Some of the changes aren't G1-specific, instead aimed at improving the platform for use on future phones and internet devices. For now, though, be on the lookout for an announcement from T-Mobile soon, bringing these much-anticipated updates to G1 owners.
