Not to be left out of the app store gambit, Palm has announced the unveiling of its own mobile storefront dubbed simply the Software Store. Like the Apple App Store and the Google Android Market before it, and following the announcement of Research in Motion's Application Center for BlackBerries, the new Palm app store allows owners of over 25 supported Palm devices to browse and download third-party applications for their phones. Unlike the 3 stores from Apple, Google and RIM, Palm is partnering with a third-party to handle distribution of the apps; the collaboration with PocketGear enabled the launch of an already fully-stocked store with over 5000 apps available and 1500 developers contributing. If you're a user of a Palm device running either the Palm OS or Windows Mobile, you'll need to download the store client to your cell phone in order to take advantage of the service; head to the store to grab the free download.
