Just a couple of months ago the iPhone 3G was an elusive prize, but now you can get a used 8 gigabyte model from AT&T for $150, 50 bucks below the regular price. It's a refurbished model, meaning someone bought it and returned it within the 30-day return period, and then AT&T fixed it up and put it back on the market. The downsides: the warranty period is 90 days instead of a year, and some refurbished phones might have scratches on them.

If you're on a tight budget (and who isn't these days?), it's still not a bad deal for a cell phone-meets-mini-computer-meets-iPod, and shipping is included in that price. Just keep in mind that you'll still have to sign a two-year contract and hand over at least $70 per month for the service, making the up-front cost of the phone seem small by comparison regardless of whether you buy old or new.
