Due to be officially unveiled in January 2009 at CES and shipping in mid-January, the newest model of the Classmate PC netbook is a convertible tablet PC with an 8.9 inch touchscreen, a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, a 60 GB hard drive, and running Windows XP Home. Designed for children to use, this newer model of the Classmate PC comes bundled with software to take better advantage of the touchscreen, which can now fold down flat for use as a tablet and responds to input from both a stylus and from your fingers. Laptop Magazine managed to get their hands on an early production version of the netbook that was pre-announced back in August and were so impressed with the touch implementation that they said it's "what we hope to see from the mainstream netbook vendors that plan to bring touch to the smaller screen."
