Apple has just released a series of firmware updates for the latest models in its MacBook line of laptops, aimed at resolving stability issues leading to system crashes. Users have been reporting that the systems are unstable when a full 4GB of RAM is installed; they seem to work just fine when system memory is stepped back to 3GB. Problems have also been showing up when trying to put one of the laptops to sleep or wake it back up. The documentation accompanying Apple's latest software update claims it will "improve stability", focusing on issues with "sleep-wake, USB, and device compatibility".

With this update hot on the heels of complaints of the RAM issue, users initially speculated that the patch would ameliorate those issues as well under the claim of improving general stability. After installing the update, users running endurance tests on their machines have shown that, while the laptops seem to run longer without freezing up with 4GB installed, they still inevitably begin to act erratically. Reports indicate that Apple is at least aware of the issue, so affected users should just reduce their system's RAM to 2GB or 3GB and sit tight for a proper fix from Apple.

Firmware update BREAKS AT&T (Sierra Wireless) Mercury USB AirCard. You have to run the Uninstall Switch Driver from the device, reboot, and then re-install.
