Google's relatively new entrant to the web browser market, Google Chrome, should be coming out of beta soon, according to vice president of Google, Marissa Mayer. This news follows shortly upon announcement of Google's new Native Client technology that would allow developers to utilize the processing power of a user's computer without compromising the security of the user's computer.
Google has a long time habit of releasing technology in beta and waiting sometimes years before moving the product out of beta and into a full non-beta release. In light of that typical behavior, the move to push the company's first attempt at a web browser out of beta so soon after its initial release—and even before Google has released a version of the browser that supports OS X—shows that Google is keenly interested in having a presence on the desktop to match their online presence and to keep competitors like Microsoft at bay.
