New rumor claims DRM-free iTunes starting Tuesday

Considering that Apple already offers iTunes Plus (direct link to iTunes FAQ; will launch iTunes), a DRM-free music option launched back in May of 2007 on the iTunes Store via which you can pay about $0.30 extra per song to get the songs in higher quality and without the normal digital rights management restrictions applied to the regularly-priced $0.99 songs, and considering how successful the iTunes Store is among the online music distributors, we here at Obsessable highly doubt the current rumor du jour coming from France: that iTunes will suddenly become DRM-free starting today. Steve Jobs would never willingly give up the extra revenue stream coming from iTunes Plus.
However, we would not doubt that some of the music labels might make the decision for Apple, by choosing for all of their music to be offered sans DRM. No verification of this rumor has materialized as of yet, but we'll keep an eye on it, so you don't have to hold your breath in anticipation.
