http://media.obsessable.com/media/2008/12/08/150/windows-vista-goes-product-red.jpgThere are troubles in the world, and we know you're always on the lookout for a way to help solve them.

So does Microsoft, it would seem. They're giving you an option to flex your buying power muscles for a critical social cause by releasing a (PRODUCT) RED edition of the most recent version of Windows, Windows Vista. Pre-order this edition from Amazon for $220 (or buy it at the students-only price of $65 directly from Microsoft if you're eligible) and a portion of what you pay will go to battling the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Note, though, that the non-student RED edition seems to be $70 more expensive than the regular edition of Vista Ultimate.

It's a similar deal to what you'll get from the (PRODUCT) RED stuff from Dell and Apple: for each RED-labeled product you buy, the company you're buying it from will use a certain percentage of its profits "to buy and distribute antiretroviral medicine to our brothers and sisters dying of AIDS in Africa."
