Although both the Verizon BlackBerry Pearl 8130 and Verizon BlackBerry Curve 8330 are GPS capable devices, neither device had it enabled until now. Some HowardForums members applied a leaked firmware update version 4.5.0.97 to their phones and discovered that it enabled GPS functionality on BlackBerryMaps although it still doesn't work with Google Maps. This firmware update isn't an official release (yet), so if you have a 8130 or 8330 and are dying to have GPS enabled on your device, proceed with caution. If you're not dying to have this update but you think it would be nice, chances are that Verizon will eventually officially release the update.

It wasn't 4.5.0.97 that enabled use of BlackBerry Maps GPS functionality. It was a ServiceBook push update by Verizon. The GPS works on all 4.5.0.x firmware, including the current 4.5.0.77 which I am running.
