Medion is releasing a media-center laptop with a sizable 18.4-inch screen. The Akoya P8610 model looks great for media playback on its own, with its large 1680 x 945 resolution screen and a Blu-ray drive for access to high definition content. The only issue there is that you'll be missing out on some picture detail, as that resolution's slightly under the 1080p supported by Blu-ray discs. Luckily, there's an HDMI port for connecting the laptop to a full-sized HD screen. The Akoya supports 5.1 Dolby surround sound for an aural experience to further enhance movie viewing. Though Medion includes a digital TV tuner, the current model only supports the type of broadcasts available in Europe, so you might want to wait for a US-localized edition before picking one up. The system, with 4GB of memory and a 320GB hard drive, will be available next week for around $1160.
