Mac tablet maker Axiotron has announced some big upgrades to its Modbook, a MacBook converted to run as a tablet computer. The company claims a full array of hardware and software improvements for its new Modbook design, improving input sensitivity, making the display clearer and higher contrast, speeding up boot time, and increasing battery life. Axiotron sells full Modbook systems, or lets you send in an existing MacBook for conversion. Your system's screen and internals go into a new magnesium shell, and then Axiotron adds hardware for pen input and a GPS receiver for using the tablet on-the-go. If you've got an older Core 2 Duo-based MacBook laying around (not one of the new aluminum-shell models) you can have it converted to a tablet starting at $1300, or purchase a pre-configured Modbook starting at $2500.
