IBM has issued a challenge to Microsoft in the workplace with the announcement of its new Linux-hosted "Microsoft-free" virtual desktop applications that would replace Microsoft software like Microsoft Office in enterprise scenarios for a cost ranging from $59 to $289 per person. The virtual desktop applications would be hosted on companies' servers, giving the companies more control than they can get with free cloud-based systems you may be familiar with like Google Apps. The IBM Virtual Linux Desktop is available immediately, so if your place of business makes the switch or you hear that they're considering making the switch, let us know in the comments below.
