Arguably the greatest drawback of Dell's popular Inspiron Mini 9 netbook is its limited storage space. Its default configuration includes only a 4GB solid-state drive, and until not that long ago, there was no option to buy one with say, a 16GB drive. Dell recently added 16GB and 32GB drives, but they're only available in new machines; if you already own a Mini 9, you're out of luck. A company called Buffalo is offering two drives in Japan that'll help out — one 8GB, the other 16GB. Buck for byte (¥5,300 or $57 for 8GB , ¥9,400 or $101 for 16GB), they're more expensive than Dell's upgrade, but they're the only easy option for folks who aren't planning to buy a new system. No word on availability or pricing in other regions.
