Panasonic and Samsung invest in SiBEAM wireless video tech

Panasonic and Samsung have made a "strategic investment" in SiBEAM, designer of high-speed wireless video transmission systems. SiBEAM's WirelessHD technology sends high definition video over a 60GHz carrier to allow devices to wirelessly share content for display on an HDTV. Several companies have been competing to gain enough market share to become the de facto wireless video standard, with WiQuest recently closing up shop after its Ultra Wide Band video chips didn't catch on. That technology is limited to short distances and speeds around 100MBps, both of which SiBEAM hopes to exceed. Panasonic and Samsung did not reveal the extent of their investment, nor if they plan to introduce WirelessHD tech into upcoming product lines. Will wireless video be for home theater systems what WiFi was for networking, or is plugging in that one HDMI cable between devices not a huge deal in the first place?
