Proud of the huge success the App Store for iPhones and iPods has had since it launched in July, Apple updated the iTunes Store today with a list of the top app downloads of 2008. Free and paid apps are listed separately, but within those categories there are the top 10 apps in each category, and the top 10 overall, providing a detailed look at what folks want on their mobile devices. For example, and Facebook beat MySpace by more than one spot, and games dominated the top ten paid apps list, giving clout to Apple's decision to position the iPod and iPhone as alternatives to other mobile gaming devices like the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. After these successes, more interesting games and apps are sure to arrive next year.
