Apple's 24-inch mini-DisplayPort-based LED Cinema Display has finally shipped and is already reaching customers. The new revision to the line uses an LED-based backlight and supports video input only over the DisplayPort interface. The screen resembles an iMac, with a recessed base allowing you to store an in-use MacBook right underneath it. Rather than go with standard cable hook-ups, Apple is forcing users to use a single multi-purpose cable that carries the USB input, power with which to charge an Apple laptop, and DisplayPort wires. Though having just one cable connected to the display may be appealing to those obsessed with keeping a minimalistic desktop, it'd be nice to be able to use cheap, standard cables instead of a proprietary solution. The Cinema Display has on-board USB audio and an integrated iSight webcam, and initial comparisons against the iMac's screen make the Cinema Display appear slightly brighter. If you've placed an order for one of the $900 screens, it should be arriving shortly. Let us know in the comments how you like it.
