HP shows off Compaq Presario Mini-Q 2020 and 2030 nettop PCs

HP is releasing its first nettops, the Atom-powered Compaq Presario 2030 and 2020 Mini-Q PCs. The 2030 is a dual-core system operating at 1.6GHz and featuring a 160GB hard disk and 2GB of memory. The computer runs Windows Vista, a heavyweight OS for a system that's supposed to be a nettop. For about $100 less, the 2020 only runs a single-core Atom, goes with XP instead of Vista, and lowers installed RAM to 1GB. Both systems include four USB ports and the basic assortment of cable hook-ups, but only offer VGA analog video output. That could potentially be a problem for viewing protected content, as this output doesn't support the HDCP encryption standard. The pair of HP systems look a lot like the MSI Wind Neton spec-wise, but keep costs down by not bundling in the LCD screen. The $386 2030 and $296 2020 will first be available in Taiwan, with no US release date announced.
