Verizon employees have received their training for Samsung's Omnia smartphone, and reports indicate that the company's stores will begin selling it shortly. The Omnia is a Windows Mobile-based device, running a custom Samsung UI. The 3G phone features a five-megapixel camera, 3.2-inch 240 x 400 touchscreen, and either 8GB or 16GB internal flash storage. Media playback supports the rich assortment of file types you'd expect from a Windows Mobile device, including XviD, WMV, MP4, and H.264 video, as well as all the standard audio formats.

While the specs sound impressive, reports have criticized Samsung's interface, calling it not only slow and bug-ridden, but annoying to use. Instead of just tapping on features to use them, you must track down the needed icon in a sidebar, and then drag it to the desktop to open up and run the selected widget. There's no word on if Verizon will manage to tweak the UI to resolve these issues before the phone's official release on its network.
