Epson is releasing its Dreamio EH-TW4000, a 1080p projector claiming a high 75,000:1 contrast ratio. That measurement is very impressive for an LCD projector like Epson's, but it'd be nice to see independent confirmation, since there are many ways to subjectively enhance contrast that may be factoring in. The projector's imaging system uses a three-LCD arrangement, with tightly-spaced pixels to supposedly reduce the "screen door" effect and maximize light availability, and a series of polarizing filters to reduce light leakage between components. Epson says the TW4000 is capable of reproducing 115% of the NTSC color gamut using its 12-bit LCDs and video processing hardware. The lens system supports 2.1-times zoom and optical tilt and shift to square-off the projected image. The projector will accept up to two HDMI, component video, and VGA inputs, and will be available in Japan next week for around $3,700.
