HP today announced the Touchsmart tx2 multi-touch notebook that is convertible between a laptop and a tablet and features a 12.1-inch screen. This touch savvy laptop can recognize gestures such as pinching, rotating, flicking, press and drag, and single and double tap. The laptop can be ordered directly from HP online today starting at $1149.99. The tx2 can support up to 8GBs of RAM and is available with storage options ranging from 160GBs to 500GB and AMD dual-core processors from 2.0GHz up to 2.4GHz.

Unlike HP's previous tablet PCs in the tx series, the TouchSmart interface would appear to totally replace the previous combination of touch and Wacom penabled digitizer, so it is unclear if the pen input on this new model is pressure sensitive and therefore a good choice for artists.

SlashGear got a tour of the machine and hands-on with the device and we've embedded their video below.
