The latest Apple rumors point to the company introducing quad-core Intel chips for its iMac line next year. The current round of iMacs use Core 2 Duo chips designed for mobile devices. Using laptop parts lets Apple keep the thin all-in-one system from requiring large cooling hardware, as many traditional desktop PCs do. The rumor is based on Intel's planned Core 2 Quad revamp, reducing power consumption by 30 watts. If this pans out, not only would the iMacs get two new cores and a system bus speed-boost, but could end up costing less, with the Quad chips less expensive than the mobile Duos being used now. Apple hasn't made any comment on the rumors.
