Motorola officially announced its MOTO VE66 Linux-based vertical slider phone. The quad-band GSM model supports HSDPA/UMTS, EDGE and WiFi for data. Motorola claims to enhance call quality with a noise-cancelling dual microphone setup. The phone sports a five-megapixel camera, using software to attempt to digitally stabilize shaky images. Media playback is available using microSD cards and an integrated FM radio with data support. The phone's Linux software can be enhanced with the addition of widgets, tiny add-on programs and scripts used to customized the phone and extend functionality. Motorola is holding a contest to encourage widget development, offering cash prizes up to $25,000. The MOTO VE66 should be out before the end of the year.
