HTC MAX 4G, the first WiMAX capable GSM phone

The world's first WiMAX capable GSM cellphone, the HTC MAX 4G, gets a Russian-only release.

 Although previous spy shots of an HTC Russian-only WiMAX-capable phone had indicated that it would be called the HTC T8290, HTC officially announced the world's first GSM and WiMAX integrated mobile phone as the HTC MAX 4G. Unfortunately, the device is being released on Russia's Scartel on their Yota WiMAX network and HTC made a point of noting that there were no plans for a U.S. release of the device. The MAX 4G will automatically route calls to VoIP whenever in range of the WiMAX network.

The HTC MAX 4G features a 3.8-inch touchscreen with a 800 x 480 resolution, runs on a 528MHz processor running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, and includes GPS, WiFi, an accelerometer, and 2 cameras: a 5 megapixel auto-focus still camera and a secondary VGA camera for placing video calls.
