Last night, AMD announced in a press release that they will be releasing a ATI Catalyst driver update in December. The new driver will unlock ATI Stream acceleration which would use the graphics processor to help the computer's processor to accelerate ATI Stream-enabled applications to perform tasks other than just graphics. AMD will also be releasing a free copy of ATI Avivo™ Video Converter utility that is ATRI Stream-enabled and reportedly helps convert video files up to seventeen times faster than with the processor alone.

If you are one of the millions of ATI Radeon graphics card owners and you have ATI Stream-enabled applications, then you're going to want to keep an eye out for the arrival of this driver update, which should speed things up for you.
