A week after AT&T's Mobility CEO Ralph De La Vega reportedly told Michael Arrington that an AT&T tethering plan was coming to the iPhone, more rumors have emerged with possible details on the plan. Similar to the 3G Data plan offered to people who purchase a 3G laptop card like the AT&T QuickSilver USBConnect card, there will be a 5GB data cap placed on the connection, but the iPhone tethering plan would be at a much more favorable $30 a month rather than the $60 a month rate that accompanies the laptop card. This $30, however, would be in addition to the current connectivity rates that users already pay for their iPhones.

Tethering would allow iPhone 3G owners to connect their iPhones with their laptops via a Bluetooth connection and use the iPhone as a wireless modem providing highspeed internet connectivity on their laptops. The one disadvantage of tethering over a dedicated USB card connection is the drain on the batteries on both the iPhone and the laptop caused by maintaining the Bluetooth connection.
