Blockbuster has told its investors that the company is planning to release a set-top box for streaming movies before the end of the year. The company's been playing catch-up with Netflix for years now, first offering its own DVD-by-mail service, and now apparently reacting to the wide availability of clients that stream Netflix movies. The details of the device aren't yet available, so we don't know if the box will be capable of high definition content, like the Netflix player for the Xbox 360. Available titles should include films from Warner Bros, MGM, and Paramount, as those studios had licensing agreements with Movielink, which Blockbuster acquired last year. Blockbuster also talked about its other possible future plans, including in-store unlimited monthly rental memberships. With Netflix already comfortably established as the streaming movie set-top box provider, we're curious to see what moves Blockbuster will pull to make its service more attractive.
