Although enterprising hackers had previously managed to jailbreak Google's Android OS on the T-Mobile G1, giving them root access to the device, Google released an RC30 update to Google Android that is aimed squarely at disabling the jailbreak. Unlike jailbreaking Apple's iPhone, which enables one to install numerous third party applications without Apple's approval and without using the iTunes App Store, the jailbreak of the T-Mobile G1 simply allowed users to access the root administrative account on the device and enable certain disabled features, like running applications off of a flash card.
