Not to be outdone by Apple and the complementary GPUs in its new MacBook Pros, the PC laptop industry is stepping up its game, with Toshiba releasing models running three graphics processor chips, a world first. The Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q708 and X305-Q706 laptops feature a design similar to Apple's offering a choice between a high-power, high-performance mode, and a more conservative graphics mode that conserves battery life. If you want to play a 3D game on the Qosmio, you can switch on a pair of high-end NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS chips running in parallel SLI mode to share the workload. When you're done playing and don't need that big performance boost, you can change over to a single GeForce 9400M chip, less powerful but more efficient. NVIDIA calls this configuration "Hybrid SLI", and it's available now on the Toshiba laptops.
