Hackers have managed to jailbreak the T-Mobile G1 Android phone for complete system access. Unlike the iPhone, with Apple constantly sparring with hackers and driving them to find new and unpatched ways into the system, the G1, with its open platform, is a much easier nut to crack. The process is as simple as running a telnet server on the G1, then connecting to the phone over WiFi to gain root access. A few simple terminal commands, and the whole file system is unlocked for read/write access. The hack allows you to bypass some arbitrary limitations, enabling you to run applications directly off a flash card, for example. The low-level access also means you can set up background tasks, or scripts to perform automated actions. Have any readers taken the plunge and tried working their way into the G1?
