Most 16:9 aspect ratio monitors in the 20 to 24-inch range max out at a resolution of about 1920 x 1080 pixels, but Samsung has announced what may be the world's first QWXGA monitor, the Samsung 2342BWX, squeezing a resolution of 2048 x 1152 pixels into a 23-inch LCD. At that resolution, the 2342BWX should be able to keep two full-sized windows open side by side (think a browser window and a document you're editing in your word processor of choice) with some extra space on the side for commonly used widgets, access to common files, or perhaps a chat window.

Although North American release has not been announced, it is expected, and with an initial price point of around $295 in Korea, the 2342BMX would appear to be a reasonably-priced display for a 23-inch LCD. If you're interested in possibly getting a monitor with this type of screen real estate squeezed into this type of space, however, keep in mind that fitting those many pixels in that space will mean smaller on-screen fonts.
