Users of the new Apple MacBook revisions with glass, multi-touch touchpad surfaces are reporting issues with getting the device to properly register clicks. Unlike a normal touchpad, the Mac's doesn't use a separate button to register clicks, but requires you to press down on the touchpad surface itself. The exact nature of the problem seems nebulous, with reports citing temporary inability to register clicks, sensitivity issues at the surface's edges, and jumping, erratic cursor movement. Apple hasn't released any statement regarding the suite of issues, but some forum posters are speculating that the main problem is in how the software identifies multi-touch gestures, misinterpreting clicks as "pinches" due to the presence of a second finger on the touchpad from users not accustomed to using the new interface. There is currently no way to disable pinch detection in the touchpad's settings. Have you had a chance to try out a MacBook with the new control scheme? Did you find the system responding to multi-touch input when you didn't intend it to? Let us know in the comments below.

Yes, I have attempted to used the new Macbook's touchpad, and I can definitively say that it is one of the most furstrating experiences I've ever had with new technology. I've always loved Mac laptops and have consistently been impressed with the quality and intuitiveness of their hadware design... so imagine my surprise when I picked up a new Macbook and, after an hour of using it, wanted to throw it across a room. Every time you try to click, it registers both a click and an ever-so-slight amount of movement due to the click bar doubling as a touchpad. The result is that it becomes an incredible challenge to click small buttons or cells on a spreadsheet. I honestly felt my blood pressure rise. Oh, and GOD FORBID you attempt to use it in Windows. Windows veritably freaks out with every click. Right clicking is nearly impossible because it thinks you're moving away from the dragdown window every time. What has Apple done?!? I'm hugely disappointed.
