Netflix continues an aggressive strategy to offer its content over the internet with this partnership announcement with consumer electronics giant Samsung. The DVD rental company is competing with players such as Apple and Amazon for a slice of the growing sector of living rooms equipped to receive content quickly and on demand via online delivery. Customers who own the Samsung BD-P2550 and BD-P2500 Blu-ray players will receive a free upgrade to enable the Netflix streaming, while future Samsung players will support streaming out of the box. One thing to note is that the content being streamed is actually in standard definition, not in HD, although the high definition Blu-ray player is the delivery method.

Samsung joins LG Electronics, Microsoft and Roku before it in partnership with Netflix, with the LG BD300, Xbox 360 and Roku set-top box all supporting Netflix streaming.
