LAPTOP Magazine recently interviewed Asus CEO Jerry Shen and learned that the long-rumored touchscreen version of the Asus Eee PC netbook will be coming in early 2009 with Windows 7 available on the Eee by mid-2009. Shen also revealed that the Eee line would range from a low $250 to $700 in price.

Since the original Asus Eee PC 701 was released in October 2007, several tech hobbyists, including myself, purchased the device, purchased a separate 7-inch touchpanel for close to a hundred dollars, and with some careful disassembly, soldering, and reassembly managed to install touchscreens on these little computers. The popularity of this modification to the Eee led one manufacturer to actually offer a pre-packaged Eee touchscreen modification kit. With other Asus Eee PC-branded touchscreen products like the Asus Eee Top coming to market, it's good to see Asus finally listening to what the community of Eee enthusiasts wants and coming out with a touchscreen Eee PC netbook.
