For $20, you can now purchase SanDisk's new Sansa slotMusic Player, capable of playing MP3 or WMA files off of microSD cards. The device is largely being panned by most sites in the conversation below for trying to step back from the world of pure digital music in a move to microSD cards, which currently have a 16GB data limit, as a new distribution format. Several of the sites below see microSD immediately joining cassette tapes, CDs, and DVDs in the world of media that will eventually (perhaps) be replaced by pure digital, always available data downloaded from the internet and syncing or streaming to devices with non-removable storage, like Apple's iPod.

However, if you have a nice-sized microSD card lying around, nothing will stop you from putting your own MP3s / WMA files on the device, and $20 for a music player might be a good fit for you.

Who will this catch one with? Teenagers and the "average" user are already becoming comfortable with mp3 players and digital files. There's nothing cool or hip about having to carry around a bunch of little cards with pre-recorded music.

Hell I can get a cheap mp3 player for the same price as the sansa player. When christmas time rolls around and you're faced with a choice of an mp3 player or this... what choice do you think the average person is going to make?
