Just like the new MacBook Pro 2008, the revision to the MacBook line will also employ the Brick aluminum construction process (essentially the same process used to make the MacBook Air) and feature a shiny new multi-touch glass trackpad, mini display port connector and the NVIDIA 9400M on board graphics. The $1,299 base model will include a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB RAM and a 160GB hard drive. One step up is the $1,599 upgrade that includes a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, 250GB hard drive and backlit keyboard; both models include a slot loading SuperDrive and are shipping today. Optional upgrades to either model include a bump up to 4GB of RAM, optional 128GB solid state drive and adapters to accommodate older display types. The low-end MacBook remains and drops down to a price point of $999, confirming earlier rumours that today would see a sub-$1000 MacBook.

The cheapest MacBook is actually $1299, not $999.
