If you were considering buying one of the first so-called Google phones for yourself or a loved one as a holiday gift, chances are that you're going to be waiting a while. The T-Mobile G1 has already been preordered over 1.5 million times and both the first and second rounds of the units have been claimed by early-adopters everywhere.

However, if you're not absolutely set on being one of the first 2 million people to have one of the first Google Android phones on the market, keep in mind that it is the first. There will be other models over time, and although there haven't been any real warnings or negative reviews yet, usually first generation devices like the G1 are plagued with a few issues and annoyances that are resolved in later generations of the device. If you're looking for a good alternative to the G1 that you can be sure to have sooner rather than later, make sure you look at Obsessable's T-Mobile G1 Comparator for our list of six alternatives to the T-Mobile G1 compared side-by-side, including these alternatives: the RIM BlackBerry Bold 9000, the iPhone 3G, the AT&T Tilt 8925, the Nokia N95, the LG Voyager VX10000, and the Samsung Instinct.
