One of Sony's new next-generation Blu-ray players supporting BD-Live, or Profile 2.0, is now shipping at a reasonable price of $400 for 1080p output with DVD upscaling, 7.1-channel audio, Dolby TrueHD internal decoding and BRAVIA Sync. BD-Live is an optional enhancement above and beyond the base mandatory Profile 1.1 Blu-ray specification, allowing for downloadable and interactive content with supported films. The BDP-S550 includes 1GB of internal storage to accomodate downloaded content locally, which often includes additional trailers, commentary and other extras from studios.
