Caught in the wild earlier but now officially announced by Asus, the R710 is a portable GPS unit whose claim to fame is its PathFinder Heads-up Display that projects navigational instructions onto the windshield in front of the driver. The goal with the HUD is to eliminate many of those neck movements back and forth from the road to a mounted GPS unit which introduce some factor of safety concern particularly at high speeds. The information projected onto the windshield is relatively basic, mainly encompassing your current direction and the distance to the next turn, but eventually HUD-based GPS may become one of those technologies we're not sure how we lived without.
We've embedded a video of the R710's heads-up display; follow the continued link to see a demo of the HUD.
