Sony is coordinating the extended release of a stylish Network Attached Storage device with WiFi and a web server, its 1TB Home Share VGF-HS1E. Instead of building a utilitarian drive-array-in-a-box with an Ethernet jack, Sony has designed the Home Share for integration into living areas by focusing on aesthetics and convenience. The NAS features USB ports and card readers for quick, one-touch downloading of digital files straight from cameras, video recorders, and mobile phones. In addition to directly moving files to the device, it works like any other NAS, accepting backups over Ethernet or its integrated WiFi, and supports remote connections through its Remote Home Access function. The Home Share is already available in Japan, and Sony is working now to bring it to Europe, at a price under $900.
