LaCie has shown off its 700-series of LCD monitors, 20-, 24-, and 30-inch models with LED backlighting and support for high-accuracy color reproduction. An LCD screen's gamut, the range of possible colors it can produce, is limited by the type of backlight used. LaCie's LED light sources produce a broader spectrum than the cold cathode tubes in most LCD screens, giving the models a wider gamut. Color reproduction is further enhanced with bundled calibration software and a system to monitor brightness across the screen and compensate for irregularities in real time. The widescreen WQXGA 730 and WUXGA 724 are available now for $5,850 and $2,900, respectively, with the 4:3 UXGA 720 priced at $2,040.
