DVR progenitor TiVo and German disc-burning software creator Nero are teaming up to create LiquidTV, a new software package that brings TiVo's familiar DVR interface to Windows-based desktops. While not the first PC-based DVR solution by a long shot, LiquidTV tries to differentiate itself by supporting video portability to TiVo boxes through external hard drives, transferring shows directly to iPods and PSPs, as well as utilizing some of Nero's burning prowess and allowing users to burn shows to DVD. Nero's new $200 package includes a TV Tuner, remote, software and a year subscription to TiVo's listings service, while a downloadable software-only version will run $99. The software will require a yearly $99 renewal fee to keep TiVo's TV listings.
