A Japanese business newspaper has published claims that Nintendo will be releasing a new DS handheld with added features before the end of 2008. The new DS will reportedly feature a digital camera, media player, and enhanced WiFi functionality. Reporters point to the digital camera and media player as a response to the growing popularity of the iPhone as a gaming platform, as this move brings the devices closer to a level playing field, features-wise. This move would be the second revision to the DS line, after Nintendo introduced the DS Lite in 2006. Nintendo has yet to comment on its plans for the system, but if these reports pan out, the revised DS would be available by Christmas for under $190.
